Yasmine Meddour
Yasmine Meddour is a songwriter, composer, producer, and performer based in Paris. She wrote her first songs at the age of eight on a second-hand piano given to her by her mother, before training in singing and film scoring at the conservatory. Her childhood in Russia and Algeria is a major source of inspiration for her compositions.
In 2020, Yasmine composed and performed in Arabic the original song for Papicha (winner of the César Award for Best First Film), then created the original score for Houria (2022), both directed by Mounia Meddour. Blending percussion, strings, and electronic textures, the Houria soundtrack explores the fragility, rebuilding, and resilience of its characters.
Enriched by the stories she has helped illuminate through her compositions, Yasmine felt the need to tell her own. In 2023, she began writing her first EP, LAHWA, an intimate journey in which each song draws from a childhood memory in Kabylia. Her musical world—somewhere between songwriting, electronic music, and film score—blends piano, strings, synthesizers, and voice with a deeply sensitive and cinematic approach.
Recently, Yasmine composed the score for the American short film Yachapa: Echo of the Andes, directed by Sandra Winther, and is currently working on the original music for Mounia Meddour’s upcoming feature film, Malika.
